Frequently asked questions

COVID-19 PCR Test

The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, cough, fatigue, loss of taste and/or smell. The less common symptoms include difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, loss of speech or mobility, or confusion, chest pain, sore throat, headache, aches and pains, diarrhea, a rash on skin, or discoloration of fingers or toes, red or irritated eyes.

The biomedical study in cooperation with LSMU Kaunas Clinics and Kaunas Clinical hospital proved the efficacy of the test. The saliva PCR test demonstrated 98.15% Positive Agreement and 98.11% Negative Agreement with nasopharyngeal PCR tests used in clinical practice.

We recommend rinsing your mouth with water and drinking water one hour before sample collection to facilitate saliva collection.

Do not eat, drink, smoke, brush your teeth or chew gum for an hour before collecting the saliva sample.

Saliva collected in the morning just after getting up is not suitable for the test.

To perform the test at home, please place the order 1-3 business days before the desired testing date. Three options are available:

  1. You can pick up the saliva collection kit yourself;
  2. We can deliver the kit to you via regular courier service within 2-3 business days;
  3. We can deliver the kit to you via express courier service within a business day (this option is available in Vilnius only).

After registration, a Google Meet link is sent along with the registration confirmation to conduct a video chat with the medical staff. You need to join the video call at the registered time. During the video interview, the medical staff member confirms your identity and instructs you how to collect the saliva and prepare it for transportation.

The saliva PCR test is suitable for travels to countries that require a certificate confirming negative results of the PCR (RT-PCR) test. On your request, we can issue the certificate, either printed and stamped or a digital version with electronic signatures, which you can print out before the trip. The certificates are available in three languages: Lithuanian, English, and Russian, with a QR code that ensures the authenticity of the test.

One test costs 58€.

10€ discount for one test is available with promo code when:

Closed: Saturday and Sunday

We suggest following the recommendations of the National Public Health Center (NVSC).

You should check the requirements of the destination country, which you can find on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website: https://keliauk.urm.lt/. We usually suggest taking the test the day before your departure. If necessary, we can coordinate the time individually with each client.

The customer chooses the time for saliva collection and orders the test on Diagnolita’s website (click here).

The customer chooses the saliva collection option: at home with a video call or after arriving at the site by car. The next step is to register the time for sample collection. If collection at home is requested, Diagnolita’s personnel sends the saliva collection kit to the customer’s home. The kit is stable for a long time, and the customer can collect the saliva at any time later. After confirming the registration, the customer receives a link to join the video conference or instructions for driving to the site by e-mail.

After collecting the saliva at home, the customer himself or a commissioned courier delivers the sample to Diagnolita. We guarantee test results within 24 hours from receipt of the sample. The results will be ready by the end of the same day if the test sample arrives before 13:00 on Monday-Thursday or before noon on Friday.

The test result is submitted to the ESPBI system at https://www.esveikata.lt/. If necessary, a test certificate is issued.

We deliver saliva collection kits to your home free of charge within 2-3 working days. Urgent delivery of saliva collection kits within one working day is possible only in Vilnius and costs an additional €12.

The customer or a courier must deliver the saliva sample to Diagnolita’s sample collection box. You will find the box at Saulėtekio al., Vilnius. 7C, on the left side of the building (see photo below).

Yes, you can if you know the clinical data required for the test (prostate volume and PSA concentration in blood serum) and you want to perform the test without prostate massage. We can also send you a urine collection kit via courier so you can collect the urine at home. The test without prostate massage will be less accurate than with it but much more reliable than the PSA test.

Before and after taking the test, we recommend consulting with the urologist.

We are only testing prostate cancer biomarkers and do not provide urologist consultation services.

Genetic testing of hereditary breast and ovarian cancer

It is an acronym for Diagnolita Breast and Ovarian Cancer screening.

Tests can be ordered by clicking this link: here.

DiaBOCs tests are not reimbursed by the National Health Insurance Fund.

DiaBOCs tests are recommended for individuals whose relatives have had breast or ovarian cancer diagnosed; therefore, these individuals have an increased risk of cancer themselves. Tests are also recommended for individuals who have breast or ovarian cancer and want to know if they have mutations that can be shared with descendants or relatives.

Please contact us if you need any further information about DiaBOCs tests.

A physician‘s referral is not needed.

Tests are performed from saliva samples. Do not eat, drink, smoke, brush your teeth, or chew gum for an hour before collecting the saliva sample. Saliva collected in the morning just after getting up is not suitable for the test.

Currently, genetic counseling is not offered.

It takes up to 10 workdays since receipt of the sample in our laboratory.

After ordering the test we will send you a sample collection kit to the nearest parcel machine. An individual who performs the DiaBOCs test should prepare the sample for transportation and send it using the parcel machine. The received sample will be analyzed and the test result will be prepared in 10 workdays. Information about the status of the test will be sent to your email. Test results could be retrieved after logging in to your account on the Diagnolita website.

Even if no pathogenic mutations were found in BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes it does not preclude the possibility that other known hereditary breast and ovarian cancer risk genes do contain such mutations. To make sure that you do not have hereditary pathogenic mutations you can perform the DiaBOCs HEPA test which includes all other important genes that are related to increased hereditary cancer risk.

It is critical to consider if the previously performed BRCA1/2 test was a comprehensive one and covered the whole sequence of the tested genes. Cheaper PCR tests are suitable only for the detection of several mutations and as a consequence, there is a high risk that pathogenic mutation in the BRCA1/2 gene might be missed. In such a case you may perform a comprehensive BRCA1/2 genes test DiaBOCs BRCA or DiaBOC HEPA+ test that includes all important hereditary breast and ovarian cancer risk genes. If you have any doubts about your previous BRCA1/2 test, please feel free to contact us and we will help you to make an informed decision.

It is recommended to see a general practitioner who will refer you to a clinical geneticist. You may also consult a private clinical geneticist directly.

European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) guidelines suggest that the most important hereditary breast and ovarian cancer risk genes are BRCA1, BRCA2, TP53, PTEN, STK11, CDH1, and PALB2. The most commonly tested genes are BRCA1 and BRCA2 because pathogenic hereditary mutations of these genes are the most frequent.

Breast cancer risk for men is relatively low but often they can be carriers of potentially harmful hereditary mutations. Also, it was shown that mutations in BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes are linked to an increased risk of hereditary prostate cancer.

Prostate cancer biomarker test

The Diagnolita’s Prostate Cancer Diagnostic Test is designed to assess the risk of clinically significant prostate cancer and helps decide whether a prostate biopsy is necessary. The test uses prostate cancer-specific RNA in the patient’s urine and clinical data to make estimates of the likelihood of prostate cancer and the risk of significant (aggressive) prostate cancer. Prostate cancer with a Gleason score of 7 or more in biopsy material is considered aggressive. Probability cut-off values provide aid in the decision to prescribe a biopsy. The test has a sensitivity (correctly identified cancer cases) of about 90% and a specificity (correctly identified healthy individuals) of 41% – well above the specificity of the PSA test.

A prostate biopsy is an invasive test that takes tiny amounts of prostate tissue (less than 1% of the prostate volume). Cancer may go undiagnosed during a biopsy simply because the needle did not hit the tumor. The consequence of this is that half of the biopsies performed are negative. Also, a prostate biopsy can cause complications such as infections, sepsis, or hematuria.

Diagnolita’s prostate cancer biomarker test from urine uses the sensitive RT-qPCR method. A specially designed convenient tube with a funnel makes the collection of urine samples easy. When urinating into the test tube, the very first portion of urine is automatically collected and stabilized.

The main symptoms of prostate cancer are frequent and painful urination. Sometimes traces of blood are found in the urine. When prostate cancer spreads, pain can occur in other parts of the body: the back, pelvis, and hips. These symptoms indicate a late and hard-to-treat stage of the disease when metastases have formed in the bones.

The price of the test is 198€.

We test the sample and send the test result within seven days from receipt of the sample.

The diagnostic accuracy of Diagnolita’s test in detecting significant prostate cancer is 74% for urine collected without prostate massage and 78% for urine collected after prostate massage. The accuracy of the test is significantly higher than that of the serum PSA test. According to the clinical efficacy study, the negative agreement value of the Diagnolita’s test is 93% and 92% for urine collected with and without prostate massage, respectively. It means that in more than 92% of cases, the test correctly identified the patient as not having aggressive prostate cancer. The Diagnolita’s prostate cancer test saves up to 34% of biopsies. Including only unnessary biopsies (negative or Gleason 6 cancer) savings are higher than 40% if samples were collected after massage and a bit lower than 40% if samples were collected without massage.

According European Urology Association (EUA) guidelines, prostate cancer urine tests are recommended for men before the primary biopsy when the DRE is normal, and the concentration of Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) in the blood is in the range of 2-10 ng/ml. For these patients, the value of the test is the highest. The test can also be taken when the PSA is above 10 ng/ml or before repeated biopsies to confirm the necessity of a biopsy and to assess the likelihood of significant cancer.

The Diagnolita’s Prostate Cancer Test is not intended for population screening and will not replace the PSA blood serum test. However, it can help patients with elevated PSA levels and their doctors to decide if a biopsy is required.

The advantage of Diagnolita’s test is that it uses urine collected either after or without prostate massage. In the latter case, the diagnostic accuracy of clinically significant cancer is slightly lower than that of the post-massage test. However, the negative predictive value (NPV) for clinically significant cancer is very similar: 92-93%.

The negative prognostic value is the probability that the biopsy will not diagnose prostate cancer if the Diagnolita’s test is negative.

We recommend the test without massage for those who do not want this additional procedure before the test.

We can also perform the test if the PSA concentration exceeds 10 ng/ml. In some cases it is necessary to repeat PSA testing, because the PSA concentration in the blood serum can increase not only in prostate cancer. Prostatitis, urinary tract infection, surgical interventions of the bladder or prostate, prostate massage, and mechanical irritation (longer riding on a motorcycle, bicycle, etc.) can also cause such an increase.

Please, contact us. We can recommend several options depending on your location and preferences.

Patients taking 5-alpha reductase inhibitors or antiandrogens, also those who had been taking them less than 6 months ago, were not included into the biomedical study and are not validated with this group of subjects. These drugs lower the PSA concentration in the blood serum and may affect the test results, as the PSA test outcome is required to calculate the probability of prostate cancer.

5 alfa reductase inhibitors: AVODART, PENESTER, DORTILLA, FINASTERIDE, DUTASTERIDE, COMBODART, ANTIPROST, PROSCAR, PROSPECIA, LUPRON DEPOT;

Antiandrogens: ANDROCUR.

We use a specially designed convenient tube with a funnel to collect the urine sample. When urinating into the test tube, the very first portion of urine is automatically collected and stabilized. One does not need to stop urinating as the excess urine runs into the toilet. If the patient takes the test without prostate massage, he can also collect the sample at home. The stabilizing medium mixed with urine keeps the biomarkers stable for up to 3 weeks at room temperature.

We recommend collecting the urine at any time of the day except for the morning. The morning urine is concentrated and may contain substances that interfere with the test. We recommend drinking more fluids the day before urine collection.

No special storage conditions are required. The sample should be stored at ambient temperature until collected by the courier. We recommend sending Friday samples on Monday to avoid transportation over the weekend.

Tightly close the collected sample and encase it into a transport container. Place the shipping container and the completed application form into the box according to provided instructions. If you have any questions, you can always contact us.

We recommend you consult a urologist after receiving the test results, especially if the test results are positive. Based on the test data and other clinical information, the doctor, together with you, will decide whether a prostate biopsy is necessary.

Prostate cancer is a slowly progressing disease. If the test results do not exceed the cut-off values, we recommend repeating the test if the PSA level increases or if other prostate cancer symptoms appear.

This result indicates a high probability that a biopsy will detect prostate cancer with a Gleason score of 6. Such cancer is considered non-aggressive and needs no treatment, only active surveillance. According to various studies, over 20% of men over 50 have non-aggressive prostate cancer and do not experience any symptoms. They may never be diagnosed with the disease. On the contrary, diagnosis of significant prostate cancer is clinically relevant and helps to start treatment earlier.

The test is not reimbursed by the National Health Insurance Fund.
